I recently bought a cat-purse from Hot Topic, and I have been thinking to myself- This is such a simple idea, I should make my own.

So, can anyone direct me to some good free stuffed animal patterns?

One of my thoughts was going to Goodwill and getting some already-made stuffed animals to turn them into bags and purses, but there's just something special about making one from scratch!

Especially when I've been commissioned to make a goldfish purse...

Stuffed goldfish are not that easy to come by!

a frind and i are going to be making plague doctor masks for halloween (and for a friends wedding). since we were making the masks, we'd though we'd go all out and make/get the complete outfit. i was having trouble putting my finger on the particular hts they wore, but a friend pointed out these to me:

http://www.centerstagecostumes.com/Catalog/Pirate_HatBlanks.htm

the price was a little steeper than i had hoped to be spending. would anyone have any kind of idea s to how something like this (or similar) could be constructed? or perhaps, if there's a cheaper version for sale somewhere?

thank you.

While other college students spent their Spring Breaks wasting their parents' money and drinking like fishes, I spent mine...sewing! And I couldn't be more happy about it.

The following three wallets and jordy bag (my first!) are all made from swatches I got from Javis Davis. Out of all the swatches I've ordered recently, and there have been a bunch, I think they have the best.

I usually "screen print" (using my cheap-o way that's a tutorial in the memories here), but the other day I looked at my Exact-o knife and a stack of manila folders and said "heck, I want to make a stencil."

So I cut out this intricate picture (dummie me, I should've done something simple) and now I'm afraid it's too flimsy. I've been hanging onto this thing for a week now afraid to put ink over it on top of any material in fear of ruining the material and the stencil.

Now here's my idea:

Do you all think that thoroughly coating the card-stock weight paper in Modge Podge (and somehow suspending it to dry, whatever, so it doesn't glue down to a surface) would work to make it sturdier and perhaps even easily reusable? Is this ridiculous? Has anyone attempted something of the sort?

[edit] I just went for it and applied the ink. It turned out okay! Pictures will be posted here soon. Thanks for all of your opinions! [/edit]

Hey there :)

This is my first time posting, but I'm not new to the community. I haven't done anything crafty in a long time, but veiwing the posts here, I'm definitely inspired....which brings me to the main reason I'm posting right now...

In your opinion, what's the best paint to use to paint/decorate a tshirt? I'm looking for something that won't stiffen up the fabric and won't look all "shiney". Something that looks and feels natural, like the painted design was on the shirt when you bought it.

Any and all suggestions welcome! :D

Hi everyone...i looked in the "memories" but couldnt find anything regarding this. I am trying to find a wholesaler of t-shirts. baby-tees, kids tees, mens tees, etc. I have found several different places I can order from online but would appreciate a good suggestion. Anyone here have any experience ordering from an online t-shirt wholesaler? Please note: I DO NOT want to order from a company that does not guarantee that their products are sweatshop free! I have a ton of t-shirt projects to do for friends and stuff but not enough tees!!! Thanks in advance to all who post back! take care!

You guys are seriously going to butcher me for this but...

Does anyone know where I can find a good tutorial for making *blush* book clutches? I've seriously searched ALL over memories in the bags/purses section and on all over the craftster forums. All I've been able to find are broken links and images.

Thanks!

Hey Craftgrrls!
There have been a lot of posts about things made from free swatches recently. I love them and want to get my hands on some of my own... Could we maybe start a list of sites that offer swatches and have it put in the memories? Maybe even include a brief review of sites you've used... ie. what size swatches, free shipping, shipping to canada/usa/europe, time for delivery?

Character Portrait #1 for a school assignment where we were given a short story and had to make a collage of the main character. The whole piece is collage of various items except for the detail in the hair and the lines on the face, which are paint. You can't see all of the detail because it's not the best photograph and it's too large for my scanner. Stuff like the eyelashes are made of feathers, the jewlery is shiny buttons, there are gold stars in the shawl. Basically I need to learn to take better pictures.

I've put off taking a picture of my first-ever stencilled t-shirt because I was afraid it would disentegrate or something. But it's survived two months under the horrid care I give to all my clothes, and I'm just so damn proud of it I thought I'd show it off here...

My sewing machine has a bobbin winder on it. However, every time I try to use it, the bobbin winds unevenly. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

ETA: Thank you for your suggestions -- it turns out that if I use my fingers, it works perfectly. Thanks so much!

In the interest of no longer inadvertently sticking myself in the ass with pins while attempting to properly fit something that I'm sewing, I've decided to make my own dress form. It's going to be the standard duct tape/paper tape variety, but I suspect that, although it looks easy enough, some of y'all might have a few handy tips that will make the process and final project extra fabulous.

Ready, set, GO!

p.s.
here's a good link for those of you who are inclined to take this project on as well:

Okay, I wanted to embroider Eeyore in a really cute pose onto a pair of pants. Regular hand embroidery. Anyways, can anyone give me some tips for stitching across long spaces? Like making a stitch across a space that is an inch or two long? I checked memories but I didn't see anything. Thanks in advance!

Say I got a tie... that's woven, right? Plus a t-shirt, which is knit... and I wanted to sew them together.

Would I use a ballpoint needle or a standard point?

I have the best boyfriend in the world!  (trust me, there will evenutally be crafts, but first... shameless doting!)  He's absolutely incredible.  Why?  Among many other reasons, because of him, I've got a "new" a sewing machine!  Now.. I say "new" because it's an "antique".
May I introduce to you, my crafting buddies, to....

THE SNORT!
::snort, snort snort:: )

I love The Snort!  And the Sean (bf)!

Now onto the actual crafts... Because I'm so cool, I had to follow the crowd and make one of those damned wallets.  But I had fun, so who cares!

Wallet Love... )

Ahh!  This entry took forever!  I've been away from The Snort too long. Must get back to him... <3

I will delete this if it isn't allowed.

I know many of you have your own websites out there, so I thought this was a good place to ask. I know very little about html, and need a hosting site that is really easy and not really complicated. But I was wanting one that could have a shopping cart and that on it. So I was wondering what hosts you have and if they were relatively easy to use, and build from? I signed up for one already, but I am in way over my head and I need to cancel it because it's not gonna work at all. So I was looking for an easier place to start.

Sorry this has no pictures or anything, but once I go on my spring break, I am sure I will have lot's of crafts to post here. :)
