A while back, a friend of mine asked me to make her a purse. The only instructions that she gave me were that she wanted polka dots. So last time I went to Wal-Mart, I browsed the craft section and got some nice fabrics. Four hours, one broken sewing machine needle, and a cut thumb later, I ended up with this girly picnic messenger bag:

Pickles, anyone? )

manly bag?

Hey gals...

Because I'm finally at the stage of recovery where I can concentrate enough to make stuff, I want to make my boy a cute bag. I was wondering if there were any bag tutorials/patterns or even just pics that are manly bags...All I can find is the classic messenger bag, but it's kind of boring. I am going to cross sttich/embroider some stuff on it, so maybe a messenger bag would be ok? Also, I want to put pockets in it, but have never attempted to do so...any pointers?

Thanks!

Hemp

Okay, I have a hemp question. I tried to search for a hemp community, but they are either not frequented or more about weed than making jewelry; so I thought I would come here.

My boyfriend wants to make a hemp belt with the really thick hemp (180lb) and he isn't sure how to go about the measurement for it. I know with regular sized hemp you usually do the measurement as however many inches times 12, would that work for the thick stuff as well?

Thank you!

I made a new purse tonight! I told my best friend I'd make her one. It's my favorite one I've made so far. I love it!

question

This probably leans more on a fashion question, but since the fabric in question is silk, I'd rather ask people with fabric know-how...

My grandparent's 50th anniversary is in a few weeks and the shirt I want to wear is fairly low cut. It's cool if it is sitting right on my shoulder, but it sometimes wiggles around and shows off some bra, highly inappropriate for grandparents.

So really, I'm just looking for a way to prevent it from wiggling around, and I was thinking of whatever swimsuit models use to prevent wigglage for them, but the shirt is 100% silk... so would whatever that type of glue  work on it? I don't want to stain it and I don't want to pin it (unless I -have- to...) oh well...

I'm adding some pictures of the shirt in question and some crafty things...

my sister is getting married early next year, and was looking at something like this (with a candle inside) to have me make for her as wedding favors.

my question to you all is, do you know of anywhere I could get those small tins or something similar, in large quantities?

thanks so much! :)

POCKETS?!?

Hello, again! So with the help of a fellow craftgrrl, I have decided on a design for the bag I'm going to make. I already have all the supplies I will need, along with a general idea of how to put the bag together. I know how I'm going to attach the straps, put a zippered pocket on the inside, and in the flap, but I cannot for the life of my figure out how to put an open pock on the outside. Ya know, it's sewn on three sides and open on the top? Something like a cell phone pocket? I mean, I don't know how to sew a smaller square onto the larger one....like this )

Thanks, I promise to post a pic of the complete bag!

-Di-

(Edit: ok...so I did make a mistake, but I really don't know how to fix it for next time....I waited until the end to sew on the bottom. and of course, the bag has sections, so I cant just turn it inside out and sew right sides together (well I could on 3 sides). So I have to hand sew the last part. Pics tomorrow, after I hand sew the last part and get the straps.)

I am hopelessly TERRIBLE at knitting. I have been taught and re-taught and it just isnt something I am capable of whatsoever.

Rather, I REALLY want to take up cross-stitching, and eventually embroidery.
I am interested not in those elaborate, tacky pattern kits you see at Michaels or elsewhere.
I have looked in the memories section, but havent found what I am looking for.

Id really appreciate any starter points.

Here is what I know )

do any of you know: if i bought a slab of petrified wood, can i cut it/drill it/shape it using my dremel? i've been able to do those things with shell and some stones, but i am not sure if the make up of the wood is different enough to prevent me from using the dremel on it - and i don't want to drop the money if i can't do those things! thanks in advance!

I just made this necklace.  It's the first real necklace I've ever made with a clasp, tripler and everything.

Boy is it heavy around my neck, but I love it!

And, the second thing I finished today. My flower bracelet. I know I promised to make a tutorial, but halfway through making my second flower I lost it (I did eventually find it, though :-) ) When I make my next one I will finish my picture tutorial- hopefully in a week or two.

before you make fun of my creation, i just want to point out that i've never made a pouch before. i didn't use a pattern and i did this in like 30 minutes.

i bought some really cheap vinyl from jo-ann about 2 weeks ago but i've been so reluctant about trying it out because i'm scared i'll suck and well, i didn't want to have problems.

so today i said, screw it.. why am i so intimidated? so i made a little pouch. i just kinda sewed it all together to get over the thought of never having sewn vinyl before.

here it is )

I am looking for some simple needlecraft patterns. I was looking for monkies and other animals. I know about the website http://www.needlecrafter.com/ but are there any others that people like?
Thanks :-)

Checked the memories and had no luck.

I have two blank notebooks to decorate. Their covers are kind of like cardboard, but harder, sturdier, and leaning towards having that fluffy texture, but not really. I'd like to paint them and then seal them with an acrylic spray. Do you think this would work? Any ideas as to what else I could put on these covers? They are spiral-like-bound notebooks, medium size.

Huzzah!

I decided to try Jenny Hart's Stitch-it Kit, and this is the result.

I know it isnt fancy, or a custom design, but for my first try ever at needle work, I think it is pretty swell. {And doubly so, since I literally cause a natural disaster everytime I try to knit :)]

I've been reading this community for a while but never had the nerve to post. I have a real crafty desire but not a whole lot of crafty talent. I went to a crochet class and made one scarf. Then I realized my hand pain was from carpal tunnel so crocheting was out. I decided to start making beaded jewelry since it doesn't hurt nearly as bad. It only bothers me when I attempt to string a lot of seed beads at once and don't take breaks. Anyways...here are some of my creations. I don't have a lot of money to buy expensive stuff so I'm pretty much sticking with things I can afford for now, no expensive crystals and such just glass beads.

This became somewhat picture heavy so dial uppers like myself be warned. This is also my first attempt at taking pictures of my stuff, some are a lil blurry but I'll work on that.

clicky for pictures... )

OK! That's all for now. I would love some feedback on my things. I know it's nothing fancy but I'm having a helluva lot of fun doing it.

(hmm, I was getting red Xs as if my pictures weren't working, I hope no one else has that problem)

Earring Holder

The frame is a wooden one that is painted black from the dollar store. The pink fabric is from an old shirt I had. I simply cut the fabric to size and stapled it to the back of the frame. The earring hooks slide right through the fabric... it has reduced a lot of clutter, and I think it's pretty nice looking. Total cost: $1, plus lots of frustration when the staples wouldn't go into the wood (I just used a regular stapler... a staple gun would work a lot better.

One more thing... )

[identity profile] mon-seul.livejournal.com

So, I made a make up bag for my sister today. It's the first time I ever made anything with a zipper. I used this tutorial, and it was AWESOME: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=22875.110 everyone who doesn't know how to make one should use this!
