I have a bunch of old huge jeans laying all over my house, and since I hate shopping for jeans I decided to just make some. I just resized the old scary "flared!" jeans, unhemmed the pockets and put them on the outside, turned the pockets inside out, and then put them on and ran around. I started making a yellow tutu as well but it is looking crappy. Also spray painting ugly flip flops gold is love.

Hi! I've been admiring all your wonderful creations here for a while now, and now I finally dare to post something myself. (Being new at LJ though I just hope I can figure out how to post without making a complete fool of myself*...)
So this is what I made today :) )

I am making a project which involves them , but I need a lot of em so I thought I would ask you friendly guys and gals to send your would be garabge or recyclable ( are they recycleable? if not they are this way!) this way. I need 600 because thats the only film I am familar with if you want to send me others thats fine too. I can always use it for something. If you would like I can reimburse you for the shipping charges of sending me some cartridges. Thanks so much for at least reading this. If its inappropriate I wont mind if its removed. And if you want to see my polaroids you can look at my icon because alas my scanner is broken. Heck I just got my internet back yesterday. Well anyways please email me at egadient@hotmail.com or comment here so I can give you my address if you're interested.

I am hoping someone can help me out here...ok, so a friend commissioned me to make 5 sock kitties for her nieces & nephews...3 of them in dresses for the girls, 2 of them in shorts for the boys...well I am CRAP at drafting doll clothes. I figured out some simple jumpers for the girls, and they look pretty cute. But I am so stuck on the shorts. Has anyone ever made shorts that are roughly sock monkey size? I looked for a free pattern online, but was unable to find anything.

First I tried making them using a pattern looking like this:

The less said about that disaster the better. Next I tried making them from a pattern looking something like this:

Which worked a little better, but there was still a lot of bunching in the crotch area (hee hee, I said crotch bunching)...and the shorts came up to the correct length in the front, but were way too short to cover up the butt in the back.

Does anyone have any ideas? I *have* to deliver these kitties tomorrow, so tonight after work is the last day I can work on them! If I have to go out to the fabric store at lunch and buy a pattern I will, but I was hoping someone here could help first! x-posted to craftgrrl.

Monster!

I got some fabric remnants, samples, and scraps (A LOT) from a friend of a dear coworker. I wanted to say thank you, so I made her a monster! This one is a little angel monster (because she collects angels), and is in 5 different fabrics, has pearlized glass eyes, hand dyed hair, and a red leather heart. It has a name tag too, but I took the photo before I put it on her.

QUESTION FOR THE CRAFTERS:

i'm an architecture graduate trying to find a job and while creating my portfolio, i thought it would be neat to add a page with the knit patterns i've designed myself. now, is this too far out there for the real world? as anyone added stuff they've made in their portfolio? would the people interviewing me go, "oh. quaint. ok. next please." instead of giving me high fives and cookies (which is what i assume happens when they offer you a job...right?)?

I checked the Memories on the Altoid Tins and could not find an answer to my question so... sorry if I just missed it (I suffer from Dorkius Maximus syndrome). I'm getting ready to make some pocket shrines for some friends and instead of doing it my usual way, I was thinking of covering the tins in sculpey and putting them in the oven to harden. As anyone done this before? And if so...how does it affect the metal tin? I don't want to warp it or end up wasting materials experimenting but if I have to, so be it.

Well, I've been mean to my favorite bracelet, dropping it at such. It's now scratched, many of the beads have cracked off ($1 bracelet.) and in a general state in disarray. I was in Greece a couple of weeks ago, and in Plaka, the ancient part of Greece, they basically have hundreds of shops. Surprisingly enough, a good six of these are bead shops. It was wonderful, and I got myself some beads for when I got home.

Last night I couldn't sleep, and while I was laying in bed at 4 AM, this idea popped into my mind. Immediately getting up (creative genius can't be put on halt, of course!), I pulled out my embroidery floss, old beads, and new beads, and got to work. )

monsters!

ok so i really want to craft me a little monster, i used to come across pictures of them once in a while but now i don't see them anywhere!
the thing is i've only done purses and ipodcases and sewing felt into fruit to use as pins and such, so i'm not sure how to go about sowing something stuffed!

i've been searching and googling and linkhopping for days now but all i can find is stuff about komododragons(??) and beanbag animals or teddybears.
i'm really sorry if there's already been tons of posts about this but i've been through the faqs/memories and backtracked this community for a few days( i've only been a member since yesterday) but i can't find anything substantial.

so if anyone has any pictures of theirs, or good links to some pictures, please please show me!

I don't have anything to show off, as I'm still learning how to crochet, but I do have a tip for anyone in the Chicago (Northside) area.

The Joanne's Fabric and Craft store at Elston and Diversey is liquidating their store. Everything is at least 30% off, and this Friday - the 5th - you get 10% off your total purchase on top of that.

They have a lot of things left, I was really surprised at that. They are moving in early September and just want to get rid of everything instead of moving it.

It was killer today to not spend WAY too much money.

Okay, so I bought a sewing pattern from JoAnn Fabrics awhile ago, right?

Well today, I wanted to start my project. I open the envelope, take out the guidesheets and the pattern tissue.... the guidesheets were right. But it's the wrong pattern tissue! I paid for Simplicity 5799 which is an awesome pattern for shirts, corsets, hats, and bags. I got Simplicity 4626 which is totally a dress pattern, and is not even similar.

I can't return it because I don't have my receipt anymore...

EDIT: I edited the entry because I realise how spazzy I sounded. :P Crisis averted, for the most part now. You guys seem to be pretty confident that they'll just let me exchange it, so I'm going to try that. Thanks.

Hey, guys. I don't know if this is going to be accepted, but if it isn't, feel free to delete it.

In about three weeks (or less) I'm heading off to college. I was wondering if you could help me come up with some cool crafty ways to decorate my dorm room and make it look awesome, but homey as well.

Here are the rules, though: I can't paint the walls or the furniture. I can't mount anything permanently with nails or tacks or push-pins or whatever. There are a few things (like candles) which are expressly forbidden. Also I have an unknown roommate.

My color scheme so far is dark jewel colors. There's a lot of dark red with some dark purples, dark blues and some dark oranges.

Thank you very much for allowing me to pick your brains!

Hey Hey!
I painted, stenciled and decoupaged my old ikea armoire today!
Wanna see?

I hand made the knobs with cast poured into star-shaped ice cube trays and then painted them.
The sides got a misfits stencil and the drawers are decoupaged with leopard print paper and some paper stars.
Sorry for the photo, looks a little crappy maybe...

I bought a Learn To Knit kit at Target a few weeks ago. It has a DVD and an instruction booklet, but not all of my questions are answered.

I'm attempting to make the knitted kittens that [livejournal.com profile] echoe69 brought to my attention July 26.

Anyhow, is there any difference between the English Method and the Continental Method other than the way you hold the yarn? Do they make different stitches or something?

How do I count the rows of my work? Is the cast on row Row #1?

Is this right? )

Or do I not count the cast on row?

How many rows do I have in that picture?

Sorry to be a pain and thanks for your help in advance.

I'm currently fooling around with the idea of downloading the GIMP (a software imaging program) in order for use in making stencils and such, and I was just wondering how many of you use that, and are there any tips you can give me?

All in all, I'm wondering if it's worth the time to download, or should I hold out until I save up enough to snag an old version of photoshop off of eBay (I have a thing against file sharing programs such as Kazaa and Morpheus and such... That's what I get for being raised by a full time musician.)

Any advice would be super appreciated!

(oh, and x-posted... sorry...)

Pom Poms?

A group of my friends is putting together a kickball team and I'm going to be the cheerleader, so I need some pom poms. I googled but all that gives me is how to make the tiny yarn ones which I'm using the basic idea for anyway. But, I need to know what to use for a handle. I never was a cheerleader in school so I don't really know how they're constructed, I figure I'll use cut up garbage bags ( or plasic shopping bags) for the body but what should I use for a handle?

Go Team!

So. I want to start making beaded necklaces.
They usually tell you how many beads to use, because thats pretty important.
But how much thread do you use? Any tips on how to make a guesstimate?

Gosh. I ask a question here like, everyday.

Feeling quite crafty, I decided that today I'd sew a skirt for the first day of school. I'm quite proud of it. It's my own design - I drew out my own pattern on a huge Nordstrom's bag, and then got to cutting. The salmon colored top is a tablecloth my mom bought but never used. The cream colored fabric is a thick-er muslin. (I've got an entire bolt of it - I can never use too much of it. :P)

I made it so it has no real top or bottom. The tongue can be put away inside the mouth, or pulled out to various lengths. Please forgive the weird color variations, just operating with mspaint right now. :)

I have some dried out poles of bamboo from a plant I have that I wanted to make cups out of (an idea I first saw at a ren faire.) But I'm having trouble locating info on whether or not I need to seal the bamboo with anything. I have heard that in Asia, people used to use stalks to carry water in, but I don't know if it was cured in any way first. The bamboo cup we bought doesn't appear to be cured, but it may be a different type. This site talks about making cups, but it seems to be more of an over view. Curing is not mentioned. This site mentions cracking when making flutes, which I guess is somewhat like making a cup, but doesn't mention curing. And this site says that: "Bamboo shoots are usually cooked before eating as some may contain cyanogens. This is not a problem with most temperate bamboos, and most can be eaten without cooking if they are not too bitter. The only Phyllostachys known to have potentially toxic concentrations of cyanogens is Ph. heterocycla pubescens..."

This worries me a little. I'm not 100% sure the type of bamboo we have. Our bamboo was given to us by a friend, who is more knowledgeable on bamboo, but also wasn't sure of the type (he says many time you can't tell until bamboo flowers, and when it flowers, it usually dies.) The Phyllostachys bamboo looks like this and what I have looks like this and this.

Maybe I should just stick to making wind chimes? :)
