I was tired of my coloring pages and stuff falling all over so I asked for a briefcase!:D

We used to make these as friendship things and stuff now I justlike them. the only downside is it's hard to braid them with out someone to help hold it because otherwise other means of securing them slip and stuff.

I want to make these up as partiotic book marks, or ribbons to tie into hair or pull strings for light chains, or to tie on old people's walkers for a little festivity what do you all think? I know the picture sucks but Ican't get one not to suck

I've been on this pouch-making binge lately. So far I've made a ticket stubs pocket, a guitar pick pocket, and my new favorite, this tea bag pocket! I frequently find myself disappointed with the tea options at work and would like to bring my own, so that was my reasoning for this :)

neclaces

Jul. 1st, 2006 01:10 am
[identity profile] xthinspirits.livejournal.com
I KNOW this question/questions almost exactly like it have been asked before,
but I am still confused.
See, I'm wanting to make neclaces like these:
Anyway,
people have suggested shrinky-dinks, but I don't think those are what she uses- these just seem way too precise.
People have also suggested using plexi-glass and a dremmel, different saws, or laser to cut it.
but the thing is, she makes them while on tour!
she says she wont mass-produce them, so you have to order them a few days before she gets to your city.
and im wondering how she makes neclaces using a LASER or dremmel on TOUR?
Maybe I'm just assuming that lasers and dremmels are hard to use / dangerous / not something you travel with?
Am i wrong? Maybe you actually can use lasers / dremels quite safely and easily on a tour bus?
But, for the sake of the fact that I can't use a laser irregardless if she does or not, does anyone else have any other suggestions to make these?
Thanks!!

What are some good sites to order buttons online [buttons that you sew onto clothing, not badges]? I no longer have a Joanns 10 minutes away :(
...besides ebay, a lot of them are over priced on there
Maybe some wholesale places?

I keep trying to google for some places, but I keep getting a lot of badge making sites

thanks girls :)

but i was wondering, what's the easiest tool to use to cut the plastic into the designs i want? i have an x-acto knife, but the plastic is too thick for it. pictures behind the cut

A few (web) places I have been looking at say that Avery makes the best iron on transfer paper... Does anyone know where you can get that brand here? Or another good brand avaliable in australia?

Thanks!

I love decoupage. I hate decoupage glue. See, I made my friend the above collage (on small canvas board) as part of her birthday gift (I'll be giving it to her today) and as many times as I smoothed down the pictures after gluing, I still got those wrinkles in the finished product. Does anyone have any tips on how to get a smoother finish on decoupage projects (or is that the whole appeal of decoupage, because I really don't know)?

okay, so i know there's a ton of stuff on tie dyeing on the internet. but honestly, it's all starting to blend together! i've been reading up on this forever.

what i need is for people to tell me if the way i'm planning will work! and if not, what else can i do?

i need to tye dye 75 t-shirts tommorrow. we've already done the whole elastic thing on thursday (god my arms hurt!), so that's done.

the plan is to use either RIT or dylon, whatever i can find in rainbow colours, the cold water dyes. i know there are much better options, but they require more steps, and are more expensive. these shirts are just to wear in a parade, and we've got a ton to do with tie dye virgins, so simple is the word of the day!

we have big tubs of some sort that came from a hospital, though i have yet to see them. i've been assured that they will hold at least 10 tshirts submerged.

so my plan is to divy up the shirts into 6 groups, toss each group into a dye bath, leave it there for an hour or so, then throw them into a bigger bucket full of water and vinegar. once the vinegar helps the dye set, we'll take off the elastic bands and throw them in the washing machine to rinse out the dye.

then we'll hang them on a couple clothes lines to dry.

WILL THIS WORK? i was hoping it would be way simpler than trying to dip them or trying to use the squeeze bottles, especially since it will be done primarily by adults who are already talking about what wine they're bringing!

i'll end up with about 12 or 13 t-shirts of each colour of the rainbow. so there'll be red with white rings, orange with white rings, etc, etc.

please give me feedback! i'm starting to stress out that it's not gonna work and we'll be out the cost of the t-shirts and have to start over.....

New purse. I had a few headaches with this one. Long story short - I made it to sell and I'm going to end up keeping it for myself. Not because it's too perfect... its not! thats the problem.I can not settle for any imperfections in something I make to sell. I'm anal. I know ;)

Can you use the primer paint put on walls to prime it for color on plastic? We have those preperation H wet wipe boxes and they're perfect for crafts but you can't really paint them or anything because most paint don't take to plastic. And can you sand the words off the top of the box maybe w/ith a soft grit sandpaper? I know I could do other things to hide the words but a big PREPERATION H on the craft item is pretty darn tacky.

First off - [livejournal.com profile] goldkiwi ROCKS! :) Thanks for my give-away items... Mine will go out this week, I SWEAR!
Now, onto crafty things!
While getting my nails done the other day, I mentioned going to my local bead store as I was out of some things that I needed.
She looked at me, almost shocked. "You make jewelry?! Why don't you display some of your things here to sell?"
Excuse me while I gape and collect my jaw from the floor!
I make each item for a specific person. It is a labor of love and a piece of me goes with every thing that I make. I feel that I create little works of art and I enjoy finding homes for them.
So, after all that build up, I am beading my crafty little BUTT off so that I have a bevy of things to give her in 2 weeks.
Enough jibber jabber, woman! Show me some pictures! )

sooo i just got some nifty ink jet shrink plastic made by grafix arts. i tested both sides as per the instructions and both smear. one side smears a tad bit less. after printing the ink had all bubbled up and if i even accidently nudge it while cutting them out, the design smears. is this normal? i know a few of you have printed some nice photos on the inkjet film so i thought i'd ask...

I'm working on the Glampyre Knits One Skein Wonder right now, and I've gotten to the end of the first sleeve. It's in seed stitch, and it says to bind off very loosely. I only know one very basic bind off (the one from the SnB books), and I'm not sure is there's something else that would be more appropriate, or if I should just do the basic one on larger needles to keep it loose. Also, later in the pattern, I have to loosely bind of a 2x2 rib stitch as well. Any suggestions for either?

Oh also, I'm thinking of making my boyfriend a sweater for his birthday in December, and I'd love any pattern suggestions. He's sort of a glammy, goth boy, rockstar type, so I'm hoping to find something maybe fitted with buckles, or something like that. Maybe a turtle neck, or cowl neck of some sort? I can't find any patterns that are even close to his style.

sizes

i am looking to sell dresses made of t-shirts online, but i'm not sure how to go about making dresses in different sizes. i didn't see anything about this is the memories.

1. what size is most commonly sought?
2. how do sizes (XS-L) translate into bust/waist/hips measurements with knits?

i'm looking to sell things along the line of these two shirts-->dresses: Read more... )

i figure once i get generic sizes, i'll make dresses and get some fit models to make sure before i sell. the products will be much more refined than these two (which still have logos).

So, my mum has the last bits of her dinner set that she bought about 25 years ago; a couple dinner plates, salad plates, a billon teacups because we never used them. She's finally getting rid of them, and has bought herself a nice, new, modern set, with heafty red mugs with a HUGE handle (no more teacups for this lady!).

However, the set is 25 years old, so of course she's a little sad about seeing it go. Since she's planning on just chucking the plates - they're old and scratched and whatnot - I'd really like to sneakily bring them back into the house and cut them up to fashion a bracelet of sorts for her.

Now, I have no idea how one would set shards of pottery - I've been looking online, but you get either a whole lot of people selling, or fantasy RPG games, shard is a fantasy word, don'cha know - but before I even get to THAT I'd have to cut the stoneware.

Oh, did I forget to mention that this is Denby stoneware we'll be cutting up today? This stuff is made of nails, not a word of a lie. I once dropped a dinner plate and it managed to hit the floor, hit it at such an angle that it bounced up a wee bit, and broke my toe. Broke my toe off the bounce. And didn't crack.

So, how exactly would I go about cutting up stoneware AND if you have the know-how, how exactly do I set pottery shards for jewellery and whatnot?

(icon just because I'm 8 and find it hilarious)

I figured it was about time I made a post to this wonderfully inspiring community! ^_^

I've been wanting to try soapmaking for a while, and finally got around to it. I'm pretty pleased for my first try.

Rub-a-dub-dub )

And now, a question. I'm having sewing machine troubles! It's an older machine (Simplicity 8130), but it runs well...usually. Right now, at the start of a seam the bottom thread tangles and knots, and whenever I put her in reverse, the top thread breaks. It's threaded properly, and I've cleaned all the dust out. The machine is missing the face plate, but the only thing I think that would effect is keeping the thread above the guide pin, which the thread is below (and always has been when I've used this machine). Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Have any of you seen packages of blank greeting cards (with envelopes) ready to be decorated? I haven't, but I would like some. If you have, I'd love to know where I could get some.

OR

What is the best weight of paper to use to make blank greeting cards to decorate? Any recommended brands?

Thanks!

I'm starting my new job on Monday, so I've been sewing all week. I know I'm not going to have all this spare time once I start :(

I made a butt load of new bags
