heya,
sorry for the text only post, but i'm having trouble with my emulsion.
now, i've done silk screening before and have never had an issue. the thing is that i just bought some new emulsion (my old stuff expired) and i followed all of the instructions, but when i let it dry on a screen it came out all blotchy.

does anyone know why this happened?
possibly not enough emulsion?
maybe i didn't add enough water to the activator?

ack.
help.

I have a question about the hem on a scarf, im making a scarf, its not a knitted scarf but one sewed of fabric.

now the upper hem in the picture (its below the cut )

should i fold it over, (fold the hem downwards) and sew it flat like that before i turn the scarf with the right side out?

or is it ok like this? im afraid if i dont sew it flat down it might create bulk in the scarf?

Made two scarves for my boyfriend who is going to college in Ohio. I know nothing about Ohio other than it must be colder than MD and therefore he must need scarves.

Just one more )

I know you hate it is a possibility that some of you MAY DISLIKE text-only posts, and I'm sorry :( But this community is full of geniuses, so I can't think of a better place to ask! You all are much smarter, craftier, and prettier than I am. And your hair smells better than mine, too.

Now that I'm done buttering you up, will you pretty please help with baby-related stuff?

It involves baby presents )

EDIT: Ooooookay, enough with the "i hate people who say i know you hate text-only," please. I don't care who loves/hates/is allergic to text-only posts. I was just trying to be polite, that's all. Like when someone says "I'm sorry to interrupt..." or "Excuse me for butting in..." I will try to be less polite on teh internets from now on?

Please focus on baby clothes! You charming group of crafters, you.

Hi. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a cute/cheap way to DIY a cat scratching post???

Hello! I've been lurking in the community and commenting on all the lovely crafts being posted, but this is my first post of my own creations. I also have a few questions!

I recently tried to make my own jewelry, right now just earrings and bracelets, but I want to give my jewelry to friends as Christmas gifts this year.

My first attempts at earring making behind the cut )

My questions, I have friends and relatives who can only wear gold and silver. I can't afford gold, but I'm hoping I can find some relatively cheap sterling silver earring and bracelet pieces. Does anybody know who sells sterling silver jewelry making supplies, online or off? Do you also have any good resources for the beginner to create jewelry (ideas, hints, etc)? I seem to be stuck in a stripe/alternating color only pattern. ;(

Thanks. =)

I was wondering if any of you know where I could order some double knit, jersey knit, or just generally t-shirt like fabric on line, in a wide selection of colors? I've checked the memories and gone to pretty much every site suggested, and I can't seem to find anything but neon and pastels.

Thanks!

I bought a massive curtain fabric sample pack which was in the cheap box at this massive carpet and curtain shop.

I've taken it apart best I can to save the most fabric, and now I want to take the sticky labels off the fabric. The trouble is that the material is this rough canvas stuff with long furry velvet like patterns on it and the glue from the labels are very sticky.

Any recommendations on what to soak the fabric parts with the labels in before removing? I don't want to bleach the colours in any way.

Thank you huns!

So, I played softball on a all women's fun legue this summer. Teams were mixed up with all ages. Each team had about 20 players. I played on the legion team.

Earlier the summer I made everyone who wanted one a shirt. On the front was a base ball with the legue's intials in it and on the back was "LEGION"

Saturday is the season final banquet. Very little time!

I want to make everyone on my team a little something to give them at the banquet... ANY suggestions?

I can get a hold of 12mm base ball beads, perhaps. I'm sure I've seen them around. Otherwise, there's not a lot of themed stuff out there. I just want to make something small and nice.

I've made soda tab belts before but mostly just the weaving method way. If I could find my digital camera cord I could upload.
Anyways, I can't crochet for the life of me but my mom says if I can find directions for this, she would do it.
Anyone have directions on how to crochet a soda tab belt like this? Click here

I took a class on how to make these bracelets at Micheals. After I finished the lady teaching the class showed me how to make really simple earrings to go with it. Yay!

Last week, I asked if anyone knew where I could find Jacquard Lumiere paints locally. Though I'd checked Michael's several times - even asking the employees twice - I couldn't find them there. I needed a few other things though, so I went in and on a whim, looked in the clothing paints aisle (the employees had always looked through the regular artist paint aisle before) and found some! They were kinda hidden on a very low tiny shelf so I'm glad I was able to find them.

So yeee, thanks for those who told me to go check Michael's one more time.

I made this guy with 'em! )

I have a question. I am looking for sterling silver/silver colored necklace pendant thingies I can glue to the back of something (like a flat-backed marble). So like it would turn a marble into a pendant, with nothing visible except the little loop coming out of the top. Everyone pimps firemountaingems.com and I've been all over there but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I'm not usually into mainstream jewelry stuff, so I don't think I know what I'm doing. *lol* I don't even know what it would be called. Any help? Thanks in advance.

Hi! I am stuck and need some help. I looked online for a manual for my Kenmore 385.15516000, but couldn't find one. Anyway, I doubt a manual would help.

The problem is this: I was sewing away just fine all day until I took the needle out to clean it off. I put it back in and now the thread snaps on the first stitch - every time! I have no idea why. I have replaced many needles throughout my years of sewing and never had this happen before.

I even took the needle out that I had been using and put a brand new needle in, but the thread still breaks.

Any ideas of what could be the matter? Thank you very much for any suggestions you can give me.

EDIT: I fixed it! I just cleaned out the bobbin area real good and now it works fine. There must have been something down there that was catching the thread. Thank you all for your help!

I made new panda earrings some time ago, but I was too lazy to post. I think they came out really cute, what do you think?

school's starting on monday (LAME) and I'm not feeling in the mood to use my big ole jansport for yet another year. I'm planning on getting a generic tote bag from joann's/micheals/whatever and stenciling something on it. Trouble is, I have no idea what to put. If I have no ideas by sunday night I'll probably end up writing BOOKS, but let's face it, that's no fun. So my question is, what would you write on your school bag?

Well, I have been busy. Besides worked 72 hours in 6 days, going to a convention for 4, then working a 16 hour shift this week I've made three dresses, two pairs of PJ pants (which are sadly unphotographed right now because I need to fit my boyfriend's pair when I see him tommorow) and a really cute plush toy. And bought more fabric.. sigh, I'm addicted.

Without further ado...
dresses and a stuffed candy toy- Lots of pictures! )
