once upon a time there was a footstool covered with what used to be a nice green striped upholstery. extensive use rendered it disgustingly dirty. according to the boy, it also hurt your calves if used it for too long. so, i added my renderings of birdies to turquoise & yellow vinyl plus 3 inches of densified-batting padding and got this super cute, super comfy, spill-resistant footstool.

i am in serious need of a wallet tutorial, i was thinking of something with card slots inside, i looked through the memories and didn't find anything in it helpful, i want it to be fabric, not duct tape, so if any of you have any suggestions, help would be appreciated :)

I made this charm necklace yesterday. I got the charms off of ebay and have had them sitting around for quite some time.

Okie, I've read the memories and gleaned what I could from them, but I'm still not 100% on it. So... here's what I think I'm supposed to do. Tell me if I've got it right?

1.) Make the screen, stretched mesh on a fame, got it.
2.) Print design onto a transparency. (Are the areas I will want to be not blacked out/printed with the paint supposed to be the black areas, or is it the other areas?)
3.) Put photo emulsion on the screen, and sensitizer? (Some say it's necessary others don't?)
4.) Put the transparency on top of the screen. Expose under a bright light in a dark room for the trial-and-error determined amount of time. Rinse off, and now you have a nice screen made you can make prints with.

has anyone ever tried adding shredded silk flower petals to the pulp? i have a set of hideous roses in the collest of colors and am ever looking to find a use for them that gets them out of the rose form.

i was thinking of cutting the petals into thin strips (think jullienne in cooking terms, matchstick thickness-ish) and adding the strips to the first stage of the hot water on the torn paper bits, so to soften them, but i'm wondering is if should soak them separately so they don't completely pulverize.

thoughts? advise? please?

[identity profile] luxlisbonxx.livejournal.com
how can i preserve roses still on their stem and everyhting? they are getting dried out so if you even touch them petals start falling off and i want to keep a few and display them somehow but i need to find a way to preserve them like that. i figured you crafty peoples may be able to help =)

this is my first post to the group and I thought I would say hi. I really love art and using different mediums, this painting was done with watercolors. I wasn't sure if I wanted to paint a background on it or leave it white to I acanned it into the computer without the background then worked on the background. I think the finished product turned out pretty well :)

well here it is

Hello everybody,
i guess its my first post here :)
I got a question: i really wanna have one of those ethnic lamps you can sometimes see on fairs, but they are too expensive for me (50-70 bucks!!)
So I thought about making one on my own, cause it can't be that hard to do. But the problem is, i have no idea about what materials would be needed to make one. Do you know any tutorial on the internet were they explain how to make ethnic lamps, or did you already made such a lamp and could explain to me how you did it??

thx in advance

I'm calling this one Harry. Because it has a hairy butt. She's one of my favorite monsters that I've made so far. I dunno, there's just something really cute about her. Yes, Harry is a girl. What guy runs around in purple frills? You can tell she is crazy because her eyes are different. HAHAHA. oh.

visual aid

If this is breaking a rule feel free to delete........

I'm doing a presentation on Sylvia Plath and I don't have any clue as what I could do for a visual aid, other than a poster with pictures or something like that. I figured that there would be some really brilliant people out there that would know something about Sylvia Plath and would have some idea for what I could do.

Thanks in advance!

I made my mom one of those eye pillows that you wear while you're sleeping. I used an old satin tank top for the fabric, rice for the inside, ribbons to tie the pillow/mask on and peppermint oil for fragrance. Not my ideal set of materials but I had to use stuff already lying around the house. I cut a square out of the tank top, sewed on the ribbons, folded it in half, sewed two of the sides together (leaving one side un-sewn so that I could add the rice), added oil to the rice, poured the rice inside the pillow and sewed closed the last side.

I love love LOVE chocolate covered strawberries but they're just way too expensive. The cheapest I've found is $2 for 1 large strawberry and the most expensive I've seen is $7 for one small strawberry. That's insane. So I tried to make my own.

Step 1: Clean strawberries
Step 2: Cut off green tops
Step 3: Put strawberries on a plate in the freezer for 10 minutes
Step 4: Poor Magic Shell (chocolate ice cream topping) into a shot glass or similar container
Step 5: Dip strawberries into magic shell

My sister gave me this pendant and I really wanted to do something lovely with it. I'm sure some of you have done this. It's just a wire twisting technique. Sure gives the pendant something magical that an ordinary chain can't.

This one is from the depths of the sea. :)

Meet MelodyPearl!

She's made of purple velour (it's very grape color, but it photo'd a little more blue), silver velour on the bottom, a wine colored lace ribbon, glass beaded eyes, and a red leather heart. She's about 5" tall, and 9" tentacle to tentacle. ;)

So...once I start something, I don't seem to be able to stop! I don't know if I am getting sick of making tsumami kanzashi flowers or if I feel compelled to make more, more, more! I think I should probably take a break for a week though and get some other things made... I've got tons of fabric cut for bags, pouches, accessories that have been laying around for months waiting to be sewed - I should finish them up probably?

These are just the flowers at the moment - I've discovered it is nicer if the receiving person of the flower can choose what type of fastening they want - whether it be some sort of hairclip, or a brooch back :] I'm particuarlly happy with the butterfly - but damn, I don't know what I was thinking when I took the photo and had it on the side like that D= And because I forgot to add this before - these are all made from vintage kimono fabric - most of them are silks with one cotton one.

I was bored to tears last night. I ate the last it's it in the freezer on friday and saved the box for some reason and here are the results.

Anyone remember It's Its?? )

This is the first time a tape project of mine has turned out well. For the polka dot pocket, I cut the shape out of cardboard, wrapped it in white duct tape first, then the polka dot tape. I had to go over the whole thing twice-three times with packaging tape. For the ID holder, I used the vinyl saved from the packaging that a pair of tights came in; I knew I saved it for something! I dont' think I'll actually get much use out of this, I'll probably carry it when I go out to shows or something. I think I'm going to make another one to sell, I'm really strapped for cash. I want to go get more it's-its and make more!!

Any ideas on how to get the flap to close? I tried superglueing a snap onto it, but it broke right off. Also, how do I get the superglue off the plastic? alcohol will do it, woudlnt' it?

it was my birthday on thursday, so i went out with my friends on friday night. this is the dress i made to wear.

its not quite finished because i was a bit lazy and didn't quite know what to do with the top. it fits well when i'm walking, but when i dance it slides down quite a lot (i was almost exposed a few times) so i'll have to fix that up before i wear it out dancing again.

So I wanted to crochet a sheep. I know, you're thinking "sheep? That sounds easy enough." and really, it should be easy. But despite my amazing yarn stash, I actually ran out of white homespun yarn. I didn't want to use another kind, because it wouldn't be very sheeplike. So I decided to use pink and say it was a sheep that fell in a tub of dye.

But...it didn't turn out that right.... )

esther is a dancer. esther is very very good dancer. esther is also quite smug and quite the little prima donna. if you aren't looking at her she demands to know why. if you are looking at her she wants to know why you aren't complimenting her. she loves short lacy skirts and low cut tops and any opportunity to show off her long dancer's legs. and of course, she is never ever without a mirror - some people say she has had her entire house redone in reflective surfaces. but esther isn't all ego, though she is mostly ego. she has quite the fondness for squirrels and pigeons and always makes sure to have small packets of seeds tucked into her pockets for her favourite furry critters.

(esther is again sculpey and wire. her shirt is decoupaged pages from the bell jar - hence her name - and her skirt is a bit of lace i tea stained. her hair "ribbon" is a small sliver cut out of some spare bell jar pages)

My boyfriend and I were in a wedding back in September. I put the "throwing" bouquet and my boyfriend's boutonniere, and my bouquet in thee freezer and they've kept fairly well. I was wondering what sort of craft I could involve them in, in order to preserve them so to speak. There are some small flowers, I was thinking of making soap or a candle with them but I've never had any experience with that. Also, if I defrost them, will they get all icky or would I be able to press or dry them? Thanks! I'll be sure to post pics of what I end up doing.

This is my first post with pictures. I'm a little jazzed. I want to kick it off by saying that everyone here is so creative and helpful. Because of this community I have enough craft ideas to last me 'till Christmas. Whew!

The content of my first post is nothing groundbreaking-ly cool. It’s just an iPod case, not cover. I’m afraid that I am a little hard on my first gen. iPod so I wanted a sturdy home for him in case I ever dropped him on the driveway… again.

Here's the cut!! )

Right now I am working on some bags made out of t-shirts. Hopefully I will post those this week.
Now I'm going to get comments. So awesome.
